Last weekend, 37 children and 15 of our volunteers we travelled to Scouting Maasland for our annual youth camp! With the theme “Te Land, Ter Zee, en in de Lucht en Ruimte” (a reference that, unfortunately, was familiar to about as many of our volunteers as children), we enjoyed a packed and varied programme.
After some introductory games, the children got creative, making all kinds of vehicles, space creatures, fish, stars, and mermaids for our theme banner. Afterwards, under the supervision of an astronaut, mechanic, captain, surfers, tree doctor, butterfly catcher, and even a frog on a scooter, they set out to explore Maasland. Following the construction and successful launch of water rockets, and after enjoying some soup, hot dogs, and hamburgers, it was time for the traditional game of “Water, Fire, Sponge.” For many of the children, sleeping did not initially appear to be part of the programme, but eventually fatigue won out. 😉
On Sunday, the children were up bright and early again. After a brief change of the guard due to Juf Sophie’s 3rd Dan examination (see also: https://budogouweleeuw.nl/sophie-3rd-dan-judo/), they spent much of the day engaged with our more water-themed activities. From wringing out sponges and throwing “water bombs,” to freeing ping-pong balls from tubes full of holes and transferring cups of water without looking, there was no shortage of watery challenges.
We are still collecting all the photos taken during the weekend, which will be available on the website soon. We look back on a very successful weekend and have already started making some plans for next year’s edition!
